Post 16 Rugby

This season sees the best ever amount of fixtures played, players involved, games won, competitions entered and enjoyment and quality had.

  • Won 24 -12 against Hanham High (Daily Mail Cup)
  • Lost 14 – 40 to QEH (Daily Mail Cup)
  • Lost 26 – 42 to Norton Hill (Daily Mail Cup)
  • Won 32 -12 against St Catherine’s 32- 12 (Friendly)
  • Won 26 – nil Clevedon (Bristol schools cup)
  • With Chew Valley to play in the Quarter Finals

The team led by scrum half marvel Joe “I have no fear” O’Sullivan is massively reinforced by our strong pack from 1 to 8 they all believe in each other and easily punch above their wait especially Billy Turner and Jack Arnold. The front row have dominated scrums and ball carrying back up by the power of the new and improve George Jenkins and newcomer Mason.

Out wide the backs have tried to keep it safe with Louis Dougherty looking to run every from deep often into heavy traffic. A special mention has to go to Jack Butler for scoring three excellent interception tries in three seperate games in a row. Also thanks to two year 11s Matt Philips and James Burton who have made a massive impact with their commitment and drive.

We look forward to build on the success and camaraderie of the Post 16 Rugby as we move on to shorter version of the game 7s. In which we will attending Rosslyn Park National school sevens for the second year running. Well done the lads.

After a very successful season the Post 16 rugby team took part in the Rosslyn Park National  7's  competition ,  for what is the biggest 7s tournaments in the world.  The boys faced a difficult group with them being the only  state  school and performed very well in the early stages of the tournament,  almost over turning Cheltenham College,  who later went on to progress to the semi-finals of the whole tournament.

As the tournament progressed Ashton Park picked a number of injuries to some key players and with other teams having a greater strength in depth the team struggled in later part of the tournament and were unsuccessful in making it to the knock out stages.

The boys enjoyed the experience immensely and then enjoyed an evening meal in London. Well done to all involved.
